Dear colleagues!
The International Conference Plant Genetics, Genomics, and Biotechnology (June 07-10, 2010, Institute of Cytology and Genetics, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk, Russia) has been successfully completed.
The Conference discussed the following issues:
(1) Plant genome sequencing in the 21st century;
(2) Genetics and breeding in a changing environment (including subsection Transgenic technologies);
(3) Chromosome and cell biotechnology;
(4) Genome organization and evolution; and
(5) Genomics and systems biology.
The Conference was attended by 104 participants, including 32 participants who arrived to Novosibirsk from other cities (7 Russia cities) and countries (10 countries).
The Conference presented state-of-the-art results in the field of plant genetics, genomics, and biotechnology and discussed the promising directions of collaboration in basic and applied aspects of plant genome research. The IWGSC (the International Wheat Genome Sequencing Consortium) round table discussion was organized during the conference. Among the participants of the Round table were the IWGSC members (including those from the Institute of Cytology and Genetics, Novosibirsk, Russia) and the Executive Director of the IWGSC. The Conference proceedings book includes 83 abstracts of the participants. The conference was concluded with the discussion on further co-operation in the field of Plant Genetics, Genomics, and Biotechnology.
The conference conclusion remarks were as follows:
1. The Conference’s work was successful and fruitful.
2. It is advisable to organize the Conference on a biennial basis and to include the IWGSC as co-organizer of the 2nd Conference Plant Genetics, Genomics, and Biotechnology in 2012.
3. For more effective experience and knowledge exchange and more efficient attraction of the PhD students and young scientists into the plant genome studies, the Young Scientist School on application of bioinformatics tools in Plant Genetics, Genomics, and Biotechnology is proposed to be organized in 2011 on the basis of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics, (Novosibirsk, Russia)
4. It is recommended to prepare a special issue of the VOGiS Herald journal (https://vavilovj-icg.ru/) on the basis of selected works of the Plant Genetics, Genomics, and Biotechnology conference participants.
