In July 2025, Novosibirsk will host the 8th International Scientific Conference “Genetics, Genomics, Bioinformatics and Plant Biotechnology”.

The idea to hold a conference on such a topic was born at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ICG SB RAS) in 2009 due to the fact that international scientific cooperation in a number of areas of biotechnology, genomics and plant genetics has intensified over the past decades.

The first conference in this series was successfully held in 2010. It was attended by about 100 scientists from Russia and 11 other countries, including 20 foreign participants from Australia, Belarus, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, USA, Ukraine and France.

Initially, it was decided that the conference would become a series and be held every 2 years. ICG SB RAS, the initiator and main organiser of this series of conferences, has held a total of 4 PlantGen conferences: in 2010, 2015, 2019 and 2021. Also 3 conferences of this series were held in 2012 in Irkutsk (on the basis of SIFIBR SB RAS) and in 2017 in Kazakhstan (Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology, Almaty) and in 2023 in Kazan (FIC Kazan Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Kazan Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics FIC KazNTs RAS).

The necessity and relevance of the conference from year to year is confirmed by the increasing activity of its participants and their geographical expansion. In 2021, 317 people participated in the PlantGen2021 conference, including 41 foreign participants (including 7 Russian citizens working in foreign organisations). Conference participants represented 13 countries: Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Poland, Republic of Moldova, Uzbekistan. There were 240 lectures and reports, including 97 oral and 143 poster presentations. 230 abstracts were submitted to the abstract collection.

In 2023 the number of participants was already 512, including 482 participants from Russia and 30 international participants. Participants represented 14 countries: Russia, Belarus, Ghana, Germany, Ghana, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Moldova, Syrian Arab Republic, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, France, Ecuador. Out of 512 people – 393 participants were with presentations of all formats.

While discussing the results of the past PlantGen2023 and its future continuation, i.e. the choice of the venue for the next conference in 2025, it was decided to hold PlantGen2025 in the historical place – in Novosibirsk.

We look forward to seeing you all in Novosibirsk from 2 to 5 July at the 8th PlantGen Conference!
