The modern sequencing technologies allow obtaining huge amount of information about DNA sequences. The applications of these technologies are rapidly expanding, and this calls for efficient and creative data storage, analysis, and visualization methods. To process these data new bioinformatics methods were developed (genome assembling from short reads, short read genome mapping, gene functional annotation, metabolic network reconstruction).
To actively involve young scientists in data analysis for a broad range of modern sequencing technologies applications (for RNA-Seq data analysis, detection of rare variants, and ChIP-Seq data, de novo genome assembling) the Institute of Cytology and Genetics SB RAS, Chair of the Informational Biology of the Novosibirsk State University, Vavilov’s Sosciety of Geneticists and Breeders, Center of the Joint Infrastructure Using “Bioinformatics” will organize International Summer School “Bioinformatics methods and next generation sequencing technologies” August 26-30 2011, at the institu8te of Cytology and genetics SB RAS.
The main focus of this school-seminar will be new methods of the high-throughput sequencing data processing, genome sequence annotation, methods of protein function prediction, bioinformatics and systems biology. It is proposed that the lectures, courses and seminars will be focused both on young professionals in the fields of biology interested in mastering modern computer approaches in bioinformatics and young computer scientists intending to improve their knowledge in the resolution of biological issues.
During the Summer School young scientists will have the opportunities to present their own work (posters or oral presentations) for discussion.
The School is organized under the auspices of the International conference “Wheat genetic resources and genomics“.
